One to One Programme
This programme tackles attitudes and behaviour of repeat offenders, on a
one to one basis with a specially trained probation worker. Offenders
will have one session before the programme begins, intended to test and
raise their motivation for the programme.
The aim is to reduce further offending by helping offenders to improve
problem solving skills, increase social skills, manage impulsive
behaviour better and challenge anti-social attitudes. The programme is
most suited to men and women whose inability to deal with problems,
either social or personal, makes them more likely to commit offences
repeatedly, and who are most likely to respond individually rather than
in a group setting.
During the course, offenders will:
-
Talk about their behaviour and attitudes with their one to one tutor.
They will also be able to take part in role plays and do other
activities which encourage offenders to work out the best way to
respond to a problem.
-
Undertake structured exercises, so they can learn to examine their own
behaviour and the effect it has on other people.
-
Be challenged into more positive ways of thinking, to help them
realise that there are alternative actions.
-
Be helped to improve interpersonal and social skills, to prevent them
re-offending through the lack of these skills.
-
Have the opportunity to examine their own feelings in different
situations, and learn to manage them effectively, so that impulse
actions do not cause inappropriate behaviour.
