With Community Payback, offenders are working unpaid in our local communities

Newcastle, Sunderland and South Tyneside local authorities have all been selected as neighbourhood crime and justice pioneer areas.

The pioneer areas will all take part in Justice Seen Justice Done, a government campaign to put the law abiding public first in policing and justice. The campaign will make sure that:

We want to make sure Community Payback meets your local needs

There were over 700 votes for the type of Community Payback the public wanted to see offenders carry out in Newcastle, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Voting took place from 30 March to 24 April 2009, with members of the public invited to vote for one of five Community Payback projects in the pioneer areas.

The projects that received the most votes, in each area, are listed below. These projects will improve the local area and reduce fear of crime by making places safer.

Once work has been completed at the winning projects, offenders will endeavour to undertake the required work at all the nominated projects.
