Employee engagement

We firmly believe that the effort and dedication of our employees is the foundation of our success. We also believe that to get the best out of our staff we need to listen to their ideas and suggestions for improvement. For this reason we have a comprehensive employee engagement programme called Progress Through People. As part of this programme we invite contributions from our staff to look at ways in which we can improve the services we offer to victims, offenders and communities within Northumbria. Our key values are our commitment to learning, improvement, honesty, fairness, transparency and excellence in all we do. Giving our employees a stake in how we work is one of the core ways in which we are able to demonstrate these values.

In return for giving our staff opportunities to engage in deciding how we do things we have secured their commitment to involving themselves in the Progress Through People initiative. We attribute many of the improvements we have made and our high performance results to the efforts and suggestions of our employees. A recent staff survey identified us as the top probation trust in terms of being a good place to work. The same survey rated us in the top 10 of 242 public sector organisations as an employer of choice.

For anyone wanting a career in Northumbria Probation Trust these results show that we are a good place to work and take seriously our commitment to giving all of our employees regardless of role or length of service a voice in how we best serve the communities within Northumbria.
